Good Jewish Boy

Hi Barzine,

I’m looking for the perfect accompaniment to kosher cuisine. Which cocktail would you recommend to go with gefilte fish?

Wow. Ok. Even though I suspect this might not be a genuine question I will nonetheless answer it because it intrigues me.

There are different perspectives you can take. One is that gefilte fish is so disgusting you’d need to drink hard vodka BEFORE attempting to eat it – and so I’d suggest a straight vodka martini. Maybe several.

Another is that gefilte is a heavy meal, so an aperitif might work – perhaps a negroni. Or maybe several.

Anything sweet would clash, and you’d definitely want something sharp and biting. Oddly enough, I think a tart margarita would work, or maybe just some citron vodka.

To my surprise I have found an existing article about this very topic that lists other alternatives, including a drink called the Seder Sour: http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/135950/20110419/passover-cocktails-from-gin-209-for-a-kosher-holiday.htm

Good luck. You’ll need it.
