Lynchburg Lemonade cocktail recipe

Lynchburg Lemonade cocktail, photographed at Ivy by Bar Zine

To be perfectly honest, I never even heard of this cocktail until I had it at Ivy. Named after the Tennessee town that gave us Jack Daniels, this cocktail combines bourbon, Cointreau, lemon juice and lemonade to create a refreshing drink that’s suitable for summer sipping. Despite packing a punch it’s easy to drink and good for those who don’t like the taste of spirits.

According to Wikipedia, an Alabama restaurant owner claims he invented this cocktail in 1980 and that Jack Daniels stole the recipe when it promoted the drink a year later. Then again, the origin of most cocktails is usually shrouded in conflicting tales. Either way, here’s the recipe that was given to us by Ivy:

  • 40ml Jack Daniels
  • 20ml Cointreau
  • 30ml lemon juice
  • 5ml gomme syrup
  • Lemonade

Shake all ingredients except lemonade, pour into a highball glass over ice, top with lemonade and garnish with lemon.

Voila!
